Event Details

The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra returns with new album “The Hero’s Journey” and spectacular launch show at The Lexington in London on July 17th.

Five years after debut LP “Master Flea”, the group has completed work on a sprawling eighteen-track concept album based on the writings of Joseph Campbell and his seventeen stages of the monomyth, lavishly realised in a wide variety of musical styles from epic fantasy film score and 60’s psychedelia, to Bollywood and rock’n’roll, all fully orchestrated with lush strings and epic brass. Guests on the album include Bid from cult indie legends The Monochrome Set, Foz from David Devant & His Spirit Wife, and national comic treasure Kevin Eldon reprising his narrating duties from Master Flea.

The full 24-piece line-up will assemble at The Lexington on July 17th to perform the new album live on stage.

The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra was formed in 2007 by composer and arranger Martin White, known for his work as Dave Gorman’s trifle-obsessed sidekick on Absolute Radio, as well as his accordion-playing appearances on BBC2’s The Culture Show. Along with writing and producing partner Danielle Ward, he founded the live orchestral karaoke night Karaoke Circus and co-wrote the musicals Gutted, and Psister Psycho. In addition to two albums and five EPs, Martin and The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra have contributed arrangements and live backing to such acts as Jarvis Cocker, Neil Hannon, Luke Haines, Amanda Palmer, Scroobius Pip, D:Ream, and Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine. Members of the orchestra include Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti), Steve Pretty (Hackney Colliery Band), Nathan Thomas (My Life Story), and comic piano virtuoso Jeremy Limb.
